The Indian Cultural Association of Howard County (ICA-Howard) announces its inaugural Essay Contest for High School students.

 

TOPIC: “What can the world learn today from Mahatma Gandhi”

 

Award:
One High School student will be awarded a $250 scholarship for college. The name of the winner will be announced by the end of May 2019.

Who is eligible?

All students enrolled in grades 9-12 in U.S. public, private and home schools in Howard County, Maryland.

Format?

The essay should be 300-500 words. Entries must be typed, double-spaced and must be the student’s original work.

How to Enter?

Entries must be emailed to contact@icahoward.org with “Essay Contest” written in the subject line.

2019 Essay Contest Rules

 

TOPIC: “What can the world learn today from Mahatma Gandhi”

 

 

 

Section I – General Rules

ICA will have the right to edit, publish or otherwise duplicate any essay entered into the contest without payment to the author. Only the winner will be contacted with the result. The winning essay may be posted on icahoward.org.

 

Section II – Qualifications for Contestants

The contest is open to all students in grades 9-12 in public, private and home schools within Howard County, Maryland.
 

Section III – Timeline

Entries must be emailed to contact@icahoward.org with “Essay Contest” written in the subject line by: April 30, 2019, 11:59PM EST


Section III – Contest Rules

1. Participants must write on the official topic.

2. Essay must be written in English.

3. Contestants may submit only one essay entry.
4. Each entry must include a Cover Page with the Title of the Contest, name, grade,
addressand school attending on it.

5. Essays must be typewritten, double-spaced with the contestant’s name, grade, address and school attending in the header.

6. Each page must be numbered.

7. Essay must be a minimum of 300 words but no more than 500 words. The title, bibliography or footnotes are not counted in the word limit.
8. Essays will be judged on material organization,
vocabulary and style, grammar, punctuation, spelling, neatness, and aderence to contest rules.

9. The decision of the ICA Board will be final.
